Preferred Provider

What Is a Preferred Provider?

A preferred provider is a dentist or dental specialist who has entered into a commercial agreement with a health insurance company. While there are various reasons a dentist might choose to do so, the primary purpose is often to increase patient numbers at their practice.

Under these preferred provider agreements, the dentist must adhere to a predetermined fee schedule set by the health fund—not by the dentist themselves. This means that treatment costs are dictated by the insurer, often at a lower rate, rather than by the practitioner who actually provides the care.

By signing these agreements, dentists receive referrals from the health fund as a “preferred” provider. However, lower fees may lead to increased patient volume, cost-cutting, and potential compromises in treatment quality—all to meet the financial constraints imposed by the health fund. While insurers may promote “no out-of-pocket expenses” or “reduced costs,” this often comes at the expense of the level of care provided.

At Bella Dental, Dr. Geoff Wan is committed to providing high-quality, patient-focused dental care without external influences dictating treatment decisions. This ensures that every patient receives personalised care based on their individual needs, rather than being limited by the restrictions of a predetermined fee schedule set by a health fund.

We believe that your dental health should never be dictated by an insurance company. Instead, you deserve the freedom to choose the best care for you and your family. When you visit Bella Dental, you can trust that treatment recommendations are based on what’s best for your oral health, not on third-party agreements. Your well-being is our top priority, and we are dedicated to providing exceptional care without compromise.
